We are incredibly proud of our colleague Luca Bonacina, who has earned his Master’s Degree in Economics and Management for Innovation and Sustainability from Guglielmo Marconi University, graduating with the highest possible distinction: 110/110 cum laude!
This outstanding achievement rewards years of study and professional growth, while also reflecting one of the values we believe in most: people are a company’s greatest asset, and investing in their education means investing in our future.
There is something that makes this achievement even more special: Luca chose to dedicate part of his thesis to one of our companies, Varenna Holidays, turning his professional experience into an opportunity for academic research and in-depth analysis.
Balancing work and university studies requires organisation, sacrifice and a great deal of determination. Luca embraced this challenge with dedication, demonstrating that professional growth never stops and that the desire to learn can accompany every stage of a career.
He completed his academic journey during the 2025–2026 academic year with a thesis entitled:
“Data Science as a Competitive Advantage for Traditional SMEs: From a Data-Driven Approach to Business Application.”
A highly relevant topic that explores the role of data in strategic decision-making and the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises.
Today, the real estate and tourism industries also require an increasingly diverse range of skills: economics, business management, technology, performance analysis and the ability to interpret market changes.
University education helps develop these skills, complementing practical experience with new tools for analysis and management.
Luca’s degree therefore represents not only a personal achievement, but also an added value for our entire team.
One of the most significant aspects of Luca’s thesis is his decision to use Varenna Holidays S.r.l. as a real-world case study to explore the application of Data Science in small and medium-sized enterprises.
Thanks to the company information and data made available to him, Luca was able to connect the theoretical knowledge acquired during his university studies with the day-to-day operations of a business based on Lake Como.
His research explores how a data-driven approach, based on data analysis, can help improve decision-making processes, monitor business performance and identify new opportunities for growth.
The areas examined include the analysis of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), cost control, customer segmentation, forecasting and the use of reporting tools.
In his thesis, Luca also examines the development of Varenna Holidays, highlighting some of the results achieved in recent years.
His analysis documents significant growth: the number of properties under management increased from fewer than 40 to more than 90, accompanied by an 85% increase in revenue.
The research also highlights improvements in profitability indicators, growth in direct bookings and the strengthening of the brand’s position in the Lake Como tourism market.
The thesis also explores the synergies between the group’s three companies: Molteni Real Estate, specialising in property sales and purchases; Emme Emme Servizi, dedicated to property renovation and enhancement; and Varenna Holidays, specialising in short-term rental management.
Three complementary businesses that allow us to support clients throughout the entire property journey, from acquisition and enhancement to ongoing management.
Seeing our business model become the subject of university research is a source of particular pride and satisfaction for us.
In the acknowledgements at the end of his thesis, Luca expressed his gratitude to Carlo and Paolo Molteni for the trust they placed in him and for allowing him to use company information and data to carry out his research.
